Meatballs and Pasta

Serves: 4

  • 1 white onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 carrot
  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 jar tomato pasta sauce (500 g jar)
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 bag pasta

To serve

Handful of grated cheese 

Salt and pepper


  1. Bring a large pot of water to the boil with a pinch of salt. Dice the onion and mince the garlic cloves. Grate the carrot. Mix together beef mince, onion, garlic, soy sauce, egg, bread crumbs and grated carrot. 
  1. Shape the mince and vegetable mixture into meatballs with damp, c hands. Add oil to a pan, bring to medium heat. Add to pan and cook until brown. Turn a few times so meatballs are browned all over.
  1. Add pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, oregano and water to pan. Simmer for around 15 minutes or until meatballs are no longer pink in the middle. Shake pan occasionally while cooking.
  1. While meatballs are cooking, cook pasta in the boiling water according to the instructions on the packet. Drain pasta, leaving a small amount of water in the bottom of the pot.

  1. Add meatballs and sauce to pasta. Mix gently so the meatballs don’t break apart. Divide the meatballs and pasta into the dishes, add salt and pepper to taste, and top with grated cheese.
