“Kia tū rangatira, hei raukura mō te iwi.”

It’s fitting to use a passage from Te Aho Matua to introduce our new yet familiar Kaiwhakahaere Matua | Chief Executive, Darrio Penetito-Hemara.

The Ngāti Haua, Ngāti Tamaterā and Ngāpuhi descendant is a proud product of Kōhanga Reo, Kura Kaupapa and Wharekura Māori and is the first Kura Kaupapa graduate to lead Toi Tangata as its Chief Executive.

Darrio was the lead figure and founder of our national kori programme, He Pī Ka Rere, and has worked in kaupapa Māori approaches to health now for a decade. The official pōwhiri to welcome Darrio as Toi Tangata’s youngest leader was held at Te Māhurehure Marae – his very own Ngāpuhi base in Auckland. Darrio’s appointment is succession in action and we are looking forward to our journey with him at the helm. Exciting times are ahead for Toi Tangata!

Toi tū te kaupapa, toi tū te Kaiwhakahaere Matua hōu o Toi Tangata e!
