29 Mar Te Matatini | Herenga Waka Herenga Tangata
E mihi ana te kapa o Toi Tangata ki ngā motu o ngā hau e whā. Waimāria katoa ana mātou i whakakōtahi ai kia whakanui i te kaupapa whakahirahira – Te Matatini Herenga Waka Herenga Tangata. Poho kererū ana mātou, ko te reo Māori i rere, ko ngā pakihi Māori i tū, ko ngā tākaro Māori i karawhiua!
Toi Tangata was privileged to be a part of the biennial Te Matatini – Herenga Waka Herenga Tangata National Kapa Haka festival. The event brought together thousands of whānau from all over Aotearoa to represent and celebrate te ao kapa haka in all its forms.
“Mā tini, mā mano ka rangatira a kapa haka”
“Kapa haka flourishes through the efforts of many”
Kapa haka was not the only thing flourishing through the efforts of many, so too was te reo rangatira, whānaungatanga, tākaro Māori, pakihi Māori, and kaimahi Māori.
“Proud to be Māori” is an understatement.
As kaimahi of Toi Tangata, we were honoured to embrace it all while reflecting our hononga to the Heart Foundation in the presence of Te Whare Manawanui. Heart Foundation kaimahi shared mātauranga on heart health, giving heart checks while Toi Tangata brought an element of tākaro Māori and hauora Māori.
We want to give a big mihi to everyone who came to tautoko Te Whare Manawanui through playing mūtōrere, mahi whai, having a kōrero with our kaimahi, registering to our database and showing a keen interest in all the many kaupapa shared over the week. He mihi mutunga kore tēnei ki te tini, ki te mano, ki ngā kaiwhakahaere o tēnei kaupapa whakahirahira.
