06 Dec Tapuwaekura
Dr Ihirangi Heke and Dr Wayne Ngata joined us as the second keynote kaikōrero for the Toi Tangata Hui ā Tau 2021. Delivered across the country to Kura Kaupapa Māori, Tapuwaekura aims to empower kaiako to gather and repurpose mātauranga Māori in te taiao. “Believe in what you see and what you feel in the environment. You represent the best!” These inspiring words from Dr Ihirangi Heke guide our thinking towards health and wellbeing becoming an incidental outcome of understanding mātauranga Māori. Dr Ihi and Dr Wayne spoke of how we must remove the self defining idea that health and wellbeing sits with us as individuals, flipping the reason beyond physical exercise to maintain and sustain the health of the collective, ourselves, our whānau and our tāiao. Kōrero captured and illustrated by the League of Live Illustrators.
