Te Putahitanga Symposium

In March, Toi Tangata Chief Executive, Megan Tunks attended Te Putahitanga annual Whanau Ora Symposium.  Te Putahitanga is the Whanau Ora Commissioning Agency for Te Waipounamu. Here’s her take on it.

I love attending these symposiums, to listen to the presentations from a range of Whanau initiatives, many eventually turning into social enterprises.

In the kai and activity space, Koha Kai – Employment with a purpose, presenter (and initiator) Janice Lee spoke of the programme which includes many individuals with disabilities, physical, intellectual, emotional and psychological. Group members are supported by young mums and members of the community to provide home cooked healthy lunches in low decile schools in Invercargill, as well supporting the aged, disabled and vulnerable people in the wider community with adult portions. Some of the trainees then go onto other employment opportunities from the programme.

You can learn more about the symposium here or visit Koha Kai here.
