How Digitally Prepared is our Workforce? The Future of Kai

What is the future of our kai in this fourth industrial digi era?  Will we be printing our evening dinner from 3D printed food? Fancy a digitally prepared hangi? Will the salad greens in our local supermarket by grown in a high tech warehouse where space is available?

Digital technology will play a big role in the food we eat through its supply, its delivery and how its made.  Take a look at this clip which shows 3 D printed food being made.

Emerging Disruptive technology is enabling solutions to address food security, our taste and diet  preferences, and to make our lives easier. But at what cost? We have seen the growth of Uber Eats, which primarily provides more unhealthy options.  Will drones be the new uber delivery of the future? While robot restaurants are being used more in fast food outlets, here is one example of a healthier eating place.

An IOT (internet of things) fridge provides information to our devices to let us know what we need to buy, but what about privacy and data security? Which companies are using our shopping data?

A new sushi restaurant Sush Singularity due to open in Tokyo in 2020. Will this be the norm? Check out the sushi from singularity ,it raises some interesting ethical questions around genomics and biomarkers.

Researchers such as Maui Hudson , Moe Milne et al have written about genomic research and bio banking with Māori, and Te Mana Raraunga provides advice on the use of our data 

With increasing population growth and a lack of available land for growing produce,  vertical warehouses provide a solution. Growing up rather than out, artificial lights provide heat, and moisture temperature is digitally monitored. On one hand an increased move to food that is grown closer to home naturally reduces food miles, but what about the mauri within our food? 

In regard to future foods, food security and malnutrition is an increasing issue here and overseas. A factor of our everyday life, is that our diets are increasingly high in sugar, additives, preservatives etc. Ngai Tahu and Wakatu Incorporations, along with Crop and Food Research Institute are researching the role of Karengo for its nutritional properties and future health and economic development opportunities.  Ngai Tahu along with Crop and Food Research Institute has been looking into huhu grubs as an alternative protein source. Digital technology is increasingly playing a part in not only agresearch, but ways to harness these native flora and fauna.
