24 Apr He Pī Ka Rere Te Tāirawhiti and Whanganui
Darrio Penetito-Hemara our Tamaki Makaurau based Kaiarahi- Training and Development Specialist, launched a two day He Pī Ka Rere wānanga in both Gisborne and Whanganui for kaimahi from the local Kohanga Reo and Puna Reo. He Pī Ka Rere is a kaupapa Māori based physical activity and nutrition approach to nurture and develop the whole being of a tamaiti in early childhood learning environments. The activities in He Pī Ka Rere share direct links to Atua Māori and the realms where they reside. There wānanga were professional development opportunities for kaimahi of Kōhanga Reo and Puna Reo that was made available thanks to the collective mahi done by Hauora Tairāwhiti DHB and Healthy Families East Cape.
The wānanga featured a number of strategies and approaches to immerse mātauranga Māori into creative learning experiences that can allow tamariki to flourish through physical activity and nutrition.
