Tamaiti Piri Pāua

He Pī Ka Rere is a kaupapa Māori physical activity and nutrition approach that nurtures and develops the whole being of a tamaiti in Kaupapa Māori Early Learning Environments (KMELE). This approach is based on traditional techniques used by our tūpuna and born from the need to supply our tamariki with the abilities, skills and awareness to lead a lifelong relationship with movement.

The activities in the programme share direct links to Atua Māori and the realms or domains in which they reside. These activities are modified to cater to a range of tamariki ages and abilities whilst aiming to utilise the natural environment.

He Pī Ka Rere enables tamariki to be engaged in physical activity with a fun twist on te ao Māori. It brings a new dimension of learning to kaiako, tamariki and whānau whānui as they can all extend their Māori vocabulary with new words and phrases.

Have a go at the following activity with your whānau.
