29 Jul Brofile Dinner Awards 2016
Team Bros Multi-Sport Group is a gathering of like-minded people who are on a mission to be fit for purpose, better than their best and who support each other along the journey. We took time to look back over the last 12 months of the 2015-2016 triathlon season and reflect on another awesome year and celebrate our “bro-ness”. There were many miles swum, cycled and run, not to mention the many memories created and moments shared.
Having just celebrated Matariki, the Māori new year, a time where we reflect on the past and acknowledge both our achievements and our losses. Not only do we think of those who are no longer with us but we think of our friends, old and new. On the 2nd of July 2016 we celebrated the Bro Awards together. One of the 10 awards was Te Tohu Te Whai Oranga – Pursuit of Wellbeing Award. This tohu was awarded to the bro who was recognised by their fellow bros as someone who epitomises the bro-kaupapa of “Mauri Tu, Mauri Ora”, draws people into their slipstream in the pursuit of wellbeing, and lives by the bro-values and bro-code.
This year’s recipient, Margaret Hutson a.k.a. Up 4 It Bro, received sponsored entries into IronMan NZ 2017 and a team entry, alongside Kerrie Blackmoore and Johnnie Freeland, to the Taupo IronMan 70.3 in December 2016.
Seen as a quiet achiever, Margaret displayed perseverance and resilience by overcoming some serious injuries over the last 12 months and managing to make the starting line and keep moving. She carried a serious shoulder injury for most of last year and still fronted up for the IronMāori Half. More recently, Margaret recovered from a severe concussion sustained on the mountain bike leg of the Waihi Nugget in May this year. But among her achievements, she completed her first team ultra marathon event in February and it has been inspirational witnessing her journey.
