Healthier Lives Update

Toi Tangata has partnered with Waikato University to participate in the research project ‘Healthier Lives Implementation Network‘ through the Healthier Lives National Science Challenges. This project was developed out of an identified need to build an infrastructure to help transition and transfer latest innovation in health promotion programmes from the research arena into community practice. This is to ensure the value of successful programmes and products is sustained beyond the research phase.

This project is a community-based one that looks at the factors and barriers to implementing health promotion programmes into Māori and Pasifika communities. Toi Tangata was approached to be part of this project through the mahi we had contributed when @Ola@Ora was developed, an application-based physical activity and nutrition programme.

We welcome Tori Te Puke to the Toi Tangata team as she takes up the new role of Community Research Member. The project has moved into Phase 3 which includes Māori and Pasifika health organisations implementing a programme of choice from the range available. The projects include @Ola@Ora, a Tāne Hauora programme, and a mental health app for rangatahi to name a few. Implementation includes community providers identifying a programme that matches their needs and capacity to implement it. Support and research will be undertaken to understand the facilitators and barriers to effective implementation processes and outcomes.
