Kia ora, my name is Tyla and I have just completed my final year of my Bachelor of Science, majoring in Nutrition, at the University of Auckland. I am looking to go on and complete a Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics and become a registered dietician. My current areas of interest are sports nutrition, childhood nutrition, Māori health and reducing inequalities within health outcomes in Aotearoa.
I am very excited to have the opportunity to complete a research project at Toi Tangata over the summer of 2019/20. My project will be looking at nutrition advice and policies present within Māori sporting organisations, national events and representative teams in touch, tag, hockey and Waka Ama. I am looking forward to learning about mātauranga Māori in health and making connections with other organisations and people who are helping make a difference in Māori communities. Mauri ora!
